It’s been about a month and time again to check in with “what I’m watching”. Along with shows like Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, Lanterns, Reacher, and Strange New Worlds, I checked out season one of Cross, Dutton Ranch, R.J. Decker, and Lioness season 3. Along with a few other shows, but here are the movies I’ve been able to watch at home over the past few weeks…
Cactus Flower- Goldie Hawn’s Oscar winning movie debut. It’s a pretty funny film. Very much a product of the 60’s when 47year old Walter Matthau would have 23 year old Goldie Hawn fawning over him. I didn’t buy it. Ingrid Bergman is really good in it.
Good Fortune- Aziz Ansari wrote, directed, and stars, along with Seth Rogen and Keanu Reeves in this funny but uneven movie about an angel who only wants to help, but can’t quite get it right.
Military Wives- This 2019 comic/drama stars Kristin Scott Thomas and Sharon Horgan as English military wives who put together a choir in order to have something to keep them occupied while their husbands are serving in Afghanistan. It works most of the time. Who knew Kristin Scott Thomas could be funny and sing?
Sisu: Road to Revenge- Finally got around to seeing this follow up to the very entertaining Finnish original film. It has some good action but I couldn’t figure out if it’s a sequel or a prequel or what?

Marvel’s The Avengers- Started a revisit of the Avengers movies before Doomsday comes out in December. I still really enjoyed this one.

Paddy Chayefsky: Collector of Words- An interesting doc about the playwright and screenwriter of films like Marty and Network. I knew very little about him before seeing this.
The X-Files: I Want to Believe- Vrach Frankenshteyn- Writer/director Chris Carter took his 2008 film and re-edited and took stuff out and put stuff in to create this version of the film. It’s the same movie, but a little shorter. He didn’t ruin it.
Wild Strawberries- Full review in Classics section
Matinee- A revisit of this Joe Dante directed love letter to William Castle. I hadn’t seen it since the ‘90’s and enjoyed it again.
Angel and the Badman- I don’t recall if I had ever actually seen this John Wayne movie. It’s good and there is a remake coming out starring Zachary Levi and Tommy Lee Jones I think I’m going to check out.
Stella Stevens: The Last Starlet- Directed by Stella’s son Andrew, it’s both interesting and amateurish at the same time. There is some good info in there. It’s just not very slick and the use of an actress “playing” Stella Stevens doesn’t work.
Star Trek: Nemesis- Again, check out the blog for my thoughts.
Paddington in Peru- Not as good as the other two Paddington movies, but it still has enough heart and silliness to enjoy.
The Mountain Men- This 1980 Chartlton Heston/Brian Keith movie can be very entertaining (especially Keith) but it meanders a bit.
Our Man Flint- A revisit. It’s still fun, though geared very much for a male audience.
Avengers: Age of Ultron- This one is still a good watch too.
Rust- Knowing the history of this film, it’s ironic that the inciting event that gets the story moving is an accidental shooting. It’s a good film and VERY beautiful. Worth the look for the cinematography alone.
