Unending Summer Watching

It’s time again to check in with what I’ve been watching. I have had time to watch a good number of movies, but I’ve had a lot of series I’ve been watching too, like House of the Dragon, Stuart Saves the Universe, Lanterns, King of the Hill, I’ve finally watched Reservation Dogs, Season 3 of Daryl Dixon, The Hawk, and The Ark. Haven’t seen any of the new season of Strange New Worlds yet, but soon. Anyway, here are the movies I’ve watched over the past few weeks…

You Only Live Twice- Hadn’t watched a Bond movie in a while so I pulled this one out. It’s not a bad one, but in some respects has not aged well. Even for a Bond movie.

Caddyshack- Check out the episode of our podcast “Watching Again for the First Time” where we discuss this comedy classic.

Caught in the Draft- See details in Classics Section.

The Sheep Detectives- Enjoyable little movie.

Xanadu- I hadn’t seen this one since I was kid when it came out. My daughters wanted to watch it so we did. It has a few good moments but is otherwise very dull.

Star Trek: Generations- Check out the blog as I revisit the theatrical Trek movies. It's A Geek's World After All - It's A Geek's World After All .

Spider-Man: No Way Home- A revisit before seeing Brand New Day.

Aliens- Also covered in our Podcast. Links to all the episodes in the Podcast section.

Pressure- A good WWII movie with Brendon Fraser as Eisenhower.

Sneakers- Hadn’t seen this ‘90’s movie in a very long time. A stacked cast- Robert Redford, Sidney Poitier, River Phoenix, David Strathairn, Mary McDonnell, Dan Aykroyd, and Sir Ben Kingsley. Fun stuff.

The Long Walk- Based on a Stephen King story, I missed this one in theaters. I liked it.

My Little Chickadee- W.C. Fields and Mae West comedy western. It has its moments but isn’t as funny as it probably was in 1940.

Blackbeard’s Ghost- Saw this in the theater as a kid and remembered liking it. It’s fine. Peter Ustinov is always good though.

Thelma & Louise- The season finale ep of our podcast. Link in Podcast section!!

Godzilla vs Biollante- I hadn’t seen this monster mashup. Like most Godzilla movies, the people are the weak part. Also, Biollante is the good guy and Zilla the baddie.

A Good Day to Die Hard- Yes, it killed the franchise. I saw it when it came out and, because I’m a completest, bought the Blu-ray. A rewatch to see if my opinion had changed. Not really. It is by far the worst of the series but has some very good action scenes.

Earth, Wind, and Fire: To Be Celestial vs That’s the Weight of the World- A very long title for a very interesting doc. I knew less about Earth, Wind, and Fire than I thought I did.

The Thomas Crown Affair- The 1999 re-make starring Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo. It’s good on its own. They changed the ending from the original and I can’t say I did not like it.

Borderlands- Finally got around to seeing this SF flick based on a video game. I know nothing about the game so I can’t judge it on that. It has some fun moments. I think audiences and critics were a little too harsh. It’s far from great, but not garbage either.

Waitress: The Musical- This is the filmed version of a performance of the stage play. It’s good. I liked it.

Rambo: Last Blood- My second time watching this final(??) entry in the Rambo series. I like it. It’s better than Rambo III and yes, I know that’s a low bar.

The Living Daylights- Another Bond movie. One of my favorites. Though it’s strange to watch now when he’s working with what will become al-Qaeda. They were fighting the Russians at the time.

Star Trek: First Contact- Still revisiting the Trek movies. Watch the Blog for more on this one.

Moonstruck- I hadn’t revisited this one in many years. It still love it. So good.
