Still Watching

What I’m watching, here we go again. Over the past few weeks I’ve done a good amount of watching movies at home. So lets get right to it…

Bridesmaids- I think this is my third viewing and it still makes me laugh. Maybe not quite as much as that first time, but it’s still a guaranteed good time.

Late Night With the Devil- Horror not being my favorite genre, this plays pretty well. It’s different enough from the usual horror fair that I found myself enjoying it.

The Beach Boys- See TV/Streaming section for full review

Argylle- Finally got around to seeing this one. I love Kingsman: The Secret Service and hoped writer/director Matthew Vaughn could deliver again. There is some really great stuff in this movie, but it gets so overly complicated with twists in the third act that you start to stop caring anymore.

Braveheart- It had been quite a while since I last revisited this Mel Gibson “Best Picture” Oscar winner. It’s still pretty effective. I enjoyed it.

Little Wing- This is a decent little film starring Brooklynn Prince and Brian Cox.

Cinema Paradiso- Another I hadn’t revisited in a very long time. It turns out I still love it.

Bob Marley: One Love- A pretty “by the numbers” bio-pic. It’s fine.

Avengers: Infinity War- A revisit before I visited Disneyland and Avenger’s Campus.

Avengers: Endgame- Same reason to revisit and this is still one of the greatest superhero movies ever made. If not THE best.

Jesse Stone: Lost in Paradise- The final of the Tom Selleck telefilms. The formula is showing a bit too much this time out. It’s still enjoyable but I didn’t get as much from the characters this time around. The first 3 or 4 movies are the best.

The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes- Finally got around to seeing this one. It starts out great then, in my opinion, starts to fall apart just over half-way through. I stopped caring what was going on and the transformation of the Snow character is just WAY too quick.

I.S.S.- An interesting premise keeps this movie from sinking. The cast is fine, the pace is a little too slow but I did like the idea of war breaking out on Earth between the U.S. and Russia and the effect it would have on the residents of the International Space Station.

Bloodshot- Finally got to see this Vin Deisel movie version of the comic book. It’s ok.

Jim Henson: Idea Man- See TV/Streaming section for full review

The Librarian: Return to King Soloman’s Mines- The second of the Librarian’s TV movie series. It’s low budget, silly, Indiana Jones inspired fun.

For Your Eyes Only- One of the better Roger Moore Bond films.

Gypsy (1993)- This is a TV movie version of the musical starring Bette Midler as Momma Rose. She’s amazing. The film is a bit long.

Hit Man- Glen Powell plays a man who poses as a hitman for hire for the police. It’s actually pretty fun. It gets a little bogged down in the third act but has a surprisingly satisfying ending.

Remembering Gene Wilder- A decent enough documentary on the life of the brilliant Gene Wilder.

Brats- No not the dolls with the big heads, this is a documentary about the group of young actors in the mid 1980’s who were labels “The Brat Pack”. Directed by and featuring Andrew McCarthy. I’m the perfect age for this movie, but I’m not sure how it plays for anyone born after 1985.

Wonka- My first rewatch, having LOVED it in it’s theatrical run. I still enjoyed myself, but it does lose something not being on a big screen.

Sorrowful Jones- Remake of Little Miss Marker, starring Bob Hope. I liked it. This is one of, if not the best dramatic-ish performance he gives in a film.

American Fiction- Another movie I finally got to watch and this one lives up to the hype. I really liked it.

American Graffiti- I showed my 18 year old daughter and I don't think she enjoyed it as much as I always do.

Fun in Acapulco- Yes, it’s one of the formulaic mid 1960’s Elvis movies, but it’s kind of fun.

Madame Web- A movie I purposefully avoided in theaters. The trailer did not do a good job of selling it and Sony does not have a good track record with these Spider-Man spin-offs. It’s not good, but maybe not as bad as everyone was saying.
